In Brian’s defense, Nancy acts as a trigger for him as well. Neither of them know why… really.

They’re very bad liars.

I’ll be honest I wasn’t sure if “trigger” could be used correctly as a verb in this sense, but either way I figured, as far as dialogue was concerned, it was “accurate” for Paul to use incorrectly.

And just a quick reminder, Nancy was experimenting with spending the night at Paul’s apartment to take a break from dealing with her sister Amy before being reminded of the “Brian Problem“.
