Laurel has had some questions about Brian’s “shopping trip” for a while. It stands to reason that she would like to see some of the files about them.
Believe it or not, Brian is not intentionally being a jerk when he brushes off Laurel’s questions. He genuinely believes that she has an interesting puzzle to play with.
Anything resembling a date probably didn’t even occur to Brian when he suggested the dinner meeting. Laurel’s being cautious because, one, it’s Brian, and two it has been suggested that he has a type.
