I always enjoy world-building by name-dropping brands and franchises! While Stellar Journeys and Dune have been mentioned before, the rest Gabriella mentions are new.

Shantyworld is a space opera that takes place on a world of little importance that serves as a waystation between two galactic empires at war. The only reference to it is a background cosplayer way back here. (third panel) Honestly, I’m surprised I hadn’t mentioned it before. I need to start posting the concept art on my Patreon!

Exploration! is less similar to “Stellar Journeys” than the lawsuit claims, an assertion supported by its companion show “Acting!”, a fictional drama about the writers, actors, and staff on “Exploration!”.   Gabriella normally wouldn’t forget the exclamation point, but she’s excited.

Area X is a syndicated cable show that is notoriously bad. Any real science fiction fan will tell you that nobody watches it. Despite this, it’s lasted six seasons so far. Gabriella only mentioned it to trick Nancy into revealing more of her geek cred.

I look forward to revealing items of Nancy’s collection. Considering how defensive she’s being, it must be pretty good.
