This one of the times where I really have trouble with what TVTropes calls Bland Name Products. The problem is coming up with a different name for a ubiquitous product so you don’t get a cease and desist letter. I don’t like joke names. If I’m making up something that fills the huge hole for products like Coca Cola, McDonalds or Microsoft, I want something that feels real. The other problem is there are some products while technically ubiquitous, aren’t ubiquitous enough for people to get the joke. That’s why I had Hsin say Tennesee Whisky instead of Jack Daniels.
As a diehard Sinatra fan, Hsin knows Old Blue Eyes favorite drink was Jack Daniels with water, and because of this would be drinking it as well. However, coming up with another brand name wouldn’t have the synonym for an American whiskey that Jack Daniels would have. So I just went for something generic.
On a side note, Michelle told us about her gradual tour, of Hsin’s apartment here.
