Christmas Playlist Day 1

by wpmorse on December 19, 2013 at 9:14 am

This is something I’ve just thrown together and is a short list for this year (perhaps next year I’ll actually think about it.) Having to hear it ad nauseum starting a few days before Thanksgiving I regard most of the popular Christmas music out there as pure torture. The remaining holiday music that I like fits into two categories; the extremely traditional (mostly medieval) and the darkly cynical.

The darkly cynical is more fun to share.

Let’s start out with South Park. While I enjoy South Park I won’t pretend to be it’s biggest fan, but it’s Christmas material is fun. The songs in their Christmas episode are all very good I especially like their version of “Oh Holy Night” even with Cartman’s singing. My favorite song from it is Satan singing “Christmastime in Hell”

Enjoy

To stick with the theme of the season here is the Christmas Rhapsody arranged by Henry Field. Performed by the Brass Band of Lendinara City, at the Church of Our Lady of the Pilastrello 22/12/2012, and directed by Francis Centin.

Christmas Story Begins

Peaseblossom2013120201I can’t believe I did this to myself again this year. While I’m doing them they feel like they’re more trouble than they’re worth and I keep making more work for myself as the ideas become more ambitious year after year.

But I still like doing them for a number of reasons. First I have always liked Christmas specials, especially the old Rankin/Bass ones, with stories about Santa Claus. Most of them are painfully saccharine which makes them comedy gold when it comes to parody but at the same time I like the myth of Santa Claus and all the questions we ask like how does he get down the chimney, how does he deliver all the toys in on night etc… All of these are fun things to think about even if you don’t believe in any of it. In fact one of the best parts of the season is willfully deluding oneself for the two weeks of the season.

The other fun thing about this is how the raw fantasy of these story lines feel incredibly liberating and it’s always a nice challenge to come up with a new setting, and of course most of all I get to draw Peaseblossom again.

So everybody fasten their seatbelts and enjoy.

Gordon Ramsay vs The Swedish Chef

Being a fan of both the Muppets and Cooking Shows I really enjoyed this.

It was fun to see this skit deflate the pretensions of some of the current fads plus it was fun to see that Beaker is a much better Sous Chef than he is a lab assistant.

Update. To my embarrassment it was pointed out to me I’d posted the latest MLP song rather than the video I intended to. Mia Culpa!

Today we have another variation of Bohemian Rhapsody. SORRY! But since this one is done by Queen themselves (as far as I can tell) that makes it official and mostly okay.

Also since I’m trying to put together a Christmas playlists I thought I’d get an early start by finding and sharing some Christmas Rhapsodies

Enjoy

More Proof Tom Hiddleston Deserves All The Work He Can Handle

I’ve said many a time how much I liked Tom Hiddleston‘s performance as Loki in the Thor franchise and because of this I’ve been very pleased to discover that he is an even better person than he is an actor. But this latest bit of evidence just has to go viral!
