Well I had a bit of a bad ending for my weekend. I’d had a fairly nice afternoon drawing at the Seattle Art Museum and browsing at the central branch of the library and I was trying to head home while I still had the light. I usually get out of downtown by going down Westlake which I follow all the way to Fremont than turn on the Burke-Gilman trail turn again at 25th and then down into Lake City Way. This is actually not the fastest way to get home but it has the traffic free Burke-Gilman and only one big hill and at the end of a long day I will take flat over short all the time.
The one problem with Westlake is the South Lake Union Transit (they don’t use the abbreviation if they can help it.) It’s a bit of an obstacle when you are behind it and even worse when it’s behind you… and it’s tracks are just the right size to fit a bicycle wheel.
I’ve had close calls with it before and as I slid into it I knew this wasn’t going to be one of them. When this happens you have no choice but to put your arms in front of your face and pray.
I don’t want to sound masochistic or in anyway suggest that I’m an aficionado of falling off my bike but it was a smooth landing. The only really painful part about it was that my leg was inside the bike frame when it… bounced otherwise it was one you could walk away from. I want to thank all the Good Samaritans who rushed to check. It’s times like this that make you a little less cynical about the world.
I was able to get the rest of the way home other than one shin feeling wet I felt okay. Happily when I got home to tend the wounds I found it was just sweat and not what I thought it was… The other leg however was a mess with a huge egg where it had hit the frame. I didn’t have any ice in the freezer so I used the steak I was planning to thaw for dinner anyway. (Don’t worry it was still in the ziplock) That worked like a charm and the swelling went down pretty quickly. Later I noticed one of my ribs was sore.
All in all a lot better than it could have been.

Today’s sketch is a little something I did while waiting t0 get into “Thor: The Dark World”
The real fun of these free screenings is they’re very much a social event you meet a lot of interesting people while waiting out front almost giving these things the feel of a geeks tailgating party.
This one was pretty thin, mostly because it was Tuesday night and I don’t think anyone was really expecting anything from the Thor sequel. So I spent most of the time drawing. This one suffers from trying to capture the look of a crowd in under ten minutes but I mostly like the look of it.
Well today was one of those days where you wake up turn on the computer and find out that you don’t need coffee after all.
So I was checking the page only to find that yesterday’s strip still up. This is usually my fault of my forgetting to put the next day’s strip in the can either because I thought I had loaded all of the strips for the week, was running late… or just plain forgot. When this happens I immediately try to fix the problem as quickly as possible and hope nobody notices.
So imagine my surprise when I started to do this I discovered that not only had I forgot to load it I hadn’t even created the gif to load or made any record of any of the storyline in my comicstrip database, something I distinctly remember doing. THe first thing of course was to create the gif which I did but in the process the Photoshop action I was using was acting all wonky and merged all of the strips layers and saved it as a 72dpi image before it closed everything.
Thank goodness for Apple’s time machine. Most of the time I don’t like it very much. A lot of the time it feels slow, tedious, and more trouble than it’s worth but for all the times you really screw up on your file management you are really glad it is there. So having replaced the ruined file with the retreaved good one I went and updated the database. While I was at I found a duplicate entry of the strip that may have been the original file and the cause of today’s curfluffle was just a case of the final reason to start the day without the current strip not being up entering the wrong date when you put it in in the first place.
On the plus side I’m sure I’m going to stay focused on the strip for the rest of the day.
Today’s Rhapsody is “A Shropshire Lad” by George Butterworth based on the collection of poems by A.E. Housman. Don’t let the singing in the beginning of the clip scare you off it’s really quite epic.
Today, it’s back to the Seattle Asian Art Museum’s Indian Sculpture collection. This time it’s Vishnu‘s third incarnation, Varaha the Boar done in sandstone from North central India in the 11th century,
I’d done this one once before. But I think this one turned out much better.
