Well the second day of street fair. Went well. I didn’t do quite as much drawing this time mainly because I had some very pleasant companionship for most of my time. So I was focusing on that for a good deal of the time as well as stopping at a corner bistro for coffee and a dessert (a slightly dry mocha cake).
After I saw my friend off I had about an hour before I had to be somewhere. I managed to finish another picture. Had a few good conversations. Over heard a street evangelist quote Romans at someone who had gotten into an argument with him. I’ve noticed that Romans seems to be pretty popular these days… I guess it gives them some comfort whenever they run into anyone with an IQ over room temperature.
All in all a very nice way to spend the afternoon.

Well the Street Fair season has begun again. Starting with my very favorite, The University District Street Fair on the Ave!
And it had everything it always has Music, overpriced festival food, obnoxious evangelists, arts and crafts, the list goes on!
To a certain extent I think it’s gone down hill quite a bit. For the longest time my favorite part of the street fair was all of the artists with my favorite part being the opportunity to talk shop with the watercolorists. This year there were no water colorists and hardly any regular artists (two painters, one photographer, two caricaturists. All in all I think the whole things been going down hill quite a bit. Still the people watching is always fun and I got to get a few sketches in. The first two being rushed street scenes and the other being musicians from the band Fabulous Party Boys.

Today’s sketch is an Allegory of the Four Elements done in 1611 by Louis Finson (1580-1617).
I really like this piece. Every time I look at I can’t believe that is was done in the 
seventeenth century. It keeps making me think of some of the more modernist styles particularly Mexican Muralism.

Well for some time me and all of my friends at the Dreaming Comics and Games store have been teased by the rumors of Marvel’s cinema universe taking it’s next step with doing an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D television show and just yesterday I was pointed towards the first full trailer of the show! What I’m seeing so far is the usual exposition, a taste of witty dialogue, what seems to be Luke Cage in the first episode and… HOLY &^$% AGENT COULSON IS ALIVE! I GOTTA SEE THIS!!!
Ahem.. .Well. Looks promising but of course the making of trailers has become an art form which when done right can drag you in whole heatedly while telling you absolutely nothing… but still, here’s hoping. What I’m seeing here is the usI don’t follow Joss Whedon quite as religiously as some people I know but I think I can trust him to focus on story arcs as opposed to the monster (in this case superhero/villain) of the week.

Today’s Rhapsody is the first of Two Rhapsodies (L’Etang) by Charles Martin Loeffler for oboe, viola and piano though in this version has been arranged by Huei Lin replacing the oboe with a soprano saxophone. I rather like this one’s haunting quality.
