The Election

With all of the other storylines going on I’m embarrassed to say I neglected the 2012 election entirely. I’m happy to Report that President Elizabeth R. Dudley won her second term in a landslide.

In today’s Rhapsody we finish off  Hugo Alfven‘s selection of Swedish Rhapsodies with his third, the Andante (Dalecarlian rhapsody) Op.47. I rather like this one the beginning has a nice slow almost subliminal quality that reminds me very much of Wagner‘s overture to Das Rheingold.

Feel free to go back and enjoy the Midsummer Rhapsody and the Uppsala Rhapsody

Halloween Night

Well I just got the first trick or treater of the night. (Well technically my second but I’m not sure if the first one counts as the first one was my next door neighbor’s daughter and they were heading out at 4:30)

I’ve always loved Halloween. Me and my friends used to plan our trick or treating routes with a precision that would rival modern campaigns. When my dad put a moratorium on trick or treating when I was thirteen I moved my creative energies into helping and later running the haunted house at the Providence Athenaeum‘s annual Halloween party (The last year I did it I was even paid for it)

Regretably while I like being in the mood I haven’t really observed the holiday to make matters worse I really haven’t gotten that many trick or treaters which surprised me since I live on a fairly well populated street that is a fairly busy arterial (I assume it’s why I get  three denominations  of evangelists on a regular basis) Any way I’d observe all of the rituals but for them most part it was just an excuse to buy bulk candy. Last year was different. I had put up a Jack o Lantern out and much to my surprise I suddenly started getting a steady stream of trick or treaters. It hit me that it wasn’t a case of the tradition of trick or treating was dying out (it probably still is but that’s a different story) It was a case of the Jack O Lantern being a signal saying this guy is in on it come knock on the door.”

So anyway here I am again with a damn good Pumpkin and hoping for a repeat. (I better since I bought way too much candy for my usual binge.)

If Only Real Airlines Were Like This.

I just had to share this. I’m a huge fan of Peter Jackson‘s Lord of the Rings Films and I am very much looking forward to the upcoming Hobbit films. One thing I’ve found fascinating is how large a chunk of New Zealand’s GDP the films have been. So it’s really cool to see how New Zealand has embraced this phenomena… For example in this New Zealand Airline’s flight safety video.  Face it… Wouldn’t we all feel safer in a plane knowing Gandalf is our pilot?
