Hi everybody, let’s celebrate Mr. Louis Armstrong’s one hundred and twenty-first birthday by listening to his version of Frankie and Johnny.
I’ve heard tons of versions of this old classic, but I really like the honky tonk quality of this arrangement. If I have any problem with it, it’s that even though it showcases Mr. Armstrong’s singing and overwhelming personality, there’s no trumpet.
Hi everybody, whether you spend it just chilling out or out celebrating with friends, I hope you all have a great Fourth of July. Personally, I don’t have much planned beyond the fireworks. And frankly, and feel free to call me a paranoid sheep, I’m not quite ready to watch it in a standing-room-only crowd. But that’s okay since there are plenty of spots across the lake to watch it at a distance.
On the subject of fireworks, one of my pet peeves is the music they play to accompany them. If there’s any place to have the most over-the-top, jingoistic, patriotic music, it’s fireworks on the Fourth of July. So it annoys me when they just play popular rock songs.
In my opinion, the only music one should ever start a fireworks display to is Aaron Copeland.
Enjoy.
A very happy 96th birthday to Mr. Miles Davis! Let us celebrate by going back to 1959 album, Kind of Blue, with On Green Dolphin Street!
A very happy 123rd Birthday to Mr. Duke Ellington! Let’s celebrate by listening to his original signature tune, Sepia Panorama!
As one can tell by how long it’s been since I posted one of these, I’ve been scraping the barrel to find new Rhapsodies. However, every now and then, I stumble over one, most of them Queen parodies. Anyway, here is one that will put a smile on the face of cat owners everywhere, Bohemian Catsody.
