Inktober Day Ten – Hook

inktoberhook20161010For day ten of this year’s inktober challenge I did, that star of urban legends, The Hook. I can’t say this has ever been my one of my favorites. It always seemed to be like one of those campfire ghost stories where the quality of the story was the shock value of the punchline.

Also I’ve found the story a lot less scary ever since I saw the Robot Chicken skit where he and several monsters offer roadside assistance to a terrified driver.

In the end the big challenge was how to draw someone you don’t actually see in most of the stories.

Inktober Day Nine – Yotsuya Kaidan

inktober day nine Yotsuya KaidanI wanted to do something different than just a generic ghosts this year so I dipped into Japanese folklore with Yotsuya Kaidan. I’d first come across the story of Oiwa from an art book about traditional Japanese monsters and the story of betrayal, murder and revenge certainly sticks in the mind.

Inktober Day Eight – Little Green Men From Space

Inktober Day Eight - Little Green Men From SpaceAs a UFO enthusiast I’m a little tired of Greys. So when I was doing my Inktober list I went with the much more traditional Little Green Men from Space. This went well (other than if I ever get an intern one of their jobs will be to thump me whenever I get the urge to do any sort of woodland scene) For our aliens themselves I used the Hopkinsville Goblins as a template.

Inktober Day Seven – Davy Jones

Inktober Day Seven Davy JonesDavy Jones is one of those figures out of folklore where pretty much all you ever know it that he exists… or more accurately that “Davy Jones Locker” is a sailor’s euphemism for a watery hell.

I tried to make him as interesting as possible without thinking of the version from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise (that’s long hair and a beard, not tentacles, honest!)

I did the Goblin Market last year, But I thought I’d give it another try since I thought the last one, while interesting, was a bit of a mess. I’m afraid I don’t think this one’s much better. Maybe it’s an image that needs more planning then these half an hour sprints allow.

Inktober Day Five – C.H.U.D

Inktober Day Five C.H.U.DFor today’s Inktober challenge the scrap of paper I found in my magic  Tupperware container was C.H.U.D. I confess I never actually saw the movie C.H.U.D. I was using it as a catch all term to describe any subterranean inbred human cannabal, like Hills Have Eyes and similar works.

I regret that this forced me to have two sewer related images in a row, But the whole point of this exercise the improvise your way around such inconveniences.
