Because Laurel’s job to worry about all of the things Brian might let loose. When I first started to write this strip I was imagining Laurel coming in so late because she was researching something. She may still be doing that, but technically Laurel only works for the firm part time and has use of the office for the rest. Even if whatever she was doing involved business for the firm, it wouldn’t have had anything to do with the current plot.
