Fran may not understand what she’s writing down, but she writes down everything. Her notes are as close to a perfect transcript as one can get without recording anything. As the firm’s attorney, Laurel wants to be sure that all of this is above board.

On the other hand, for anyone who is wondering…

Monotonicity (countable and uncountable, plural monotonicities)

  1. (mathematics, physics) The state of being monotonic.
  2. (mathematical analysis) Said of a positive measure: the property of a positive measure of a measure space, that given two measurable sets where the first set is contained in the second one, then the measure of the first set must be less than or equal to the measure of the second set.

It also applies to economics. It’s funny how this worked. I was looking for a good word to hint at all the other things Brian could be talking about in his meeting. In the process, I learned two things. First, I had remembered a lot of my college economics courses than I thought I did, and second, economics does not seem to be quite as obsessed with the ten cent words as other fields I can name. Having said that, monotonicity works just fine and definitely leads to interesting questions about what Brian is planning.
