Blossom didn’t know why she hadn’t expected such a large crowd. She had expected some security outside of the property. Instead, it was easy.  She only needed help with the bathroom window. In fact, things had been so lax, even Bert had managed to sneak in. Was there a reason the Lady made this so easy and did she have a bigger plan in mind?  Had Blossom missed something crucial?

“How long have you been here?” she asked Bert. Bert rambled on about delays and the problems he had had and Blossom looked around the room. The Lady hadn’t done anything she expected. As expected, she had briefly talked to the band members. Though afterward, she did not pay any attention to them. In fact, she mingled with her guests, as a proper hostess should.

On the other side of the room, Hilda had just been standing around in the general vicinity of Miss Kate. Miss Kate had told Hilda she didn’t have to but there she was being a wallflower. This didn’t surprise Blossom, Hilda had never been good at parties.

“What I meant, in a general way, they anythin’ I should know about?” she asked. Blossom thought she saw Bert shrug. She didn’t know why, but she frequently had trouble remembering any of his body language of what he said beyond the general gist of things. Sometimes, she barely remembered what he looked like, except in her dreams. It was just like the way she couldn’t remember why she was so nervous about what the lady might be planning. Even though she knew she should be.

“Right,” she Blossom. “This be the plan.”
