The drive across the lake had gone slowly. Due to the heavy rain, there was a remarkable amount of congestion for how late it was. Nancy didn’t mind, she had taken every precaution she could think of, and since all of the precautions she had already taken had kept a crazy night from turning into a disaster, she could relax now. She could trust Shilo, Sam, and Fedya to take care of packing up the gear. She could mostly trust Hsin and that friend of his to drive Wendy back home. While she was slightly concerned about how things had been going with Wendy and the friend, Wendy was a grown woman. Sooner or later people had to take responsibility for their own actions.

“We’re in Homestead,” Paul said, waking her.

“Oh. thanks,” how long was I asleep?” Nancy asked.

Paul shrugged. “Sometime before we passed Poverty Rock, I think,” he said. “Where do we go next?”

Nancy rubbed her eyes, trying to think. Everything felt fuzzy because of all the sleep. Of course, she thought.

“Okay, we better drop Kevin off first.”
